Youth Leagues
Canterbury Ice Hockey Association's youth leagues are for players under 18 years of age. We offer four youth hockey leagues with refereed games in winter, shown below.

Experienced and competitive? Players can play in the leagues below and also try out for a Canterbury Representative Team and compete against other regional teams in New Zealand.
Under-12 (Super League)

The coed U12 Super League is open to all players under age 12 who have gained experience in our Learn To Play program. Through fun, engaging, and active games and exercises, U12s learn hockey fundamentals such as skating, controlling a puck, passing, and shooting.
U12s operates all year round during the four school terms. Players can attend weekly training sessions and are assigned to a superhero-themed team in winter with jerseys to match and play refereed cross-ice games.
Term 1 (Feb 8-Apr 11)
Thursdays 5.30-6.30p: Practice
Saturdays 12.30-1.30p: Practice (no session March 30)
Terms 2-3 Super League (Apr 30-Sep 26)
Tuesdays 6.15-7.15pm: Practice

Registration Fee: $179 (10-use concession card good for any session)
2024 Membership Fee: $120 (good for one year starting April 1)
Annual memberships in CIHA and NZIHF are required to play in winter Super League and this fee is separate from the registration fee.

The coed non-checking U15 league has players with a range of ability levels, from those new to the game to skilled players with years of experience. We structure sessions to enable players to develop at the pace that's right for them. Ice sessions are focused on skill development through fun and engaging activities, but with an increasing focus on team play.
U15s typically have one practice per week in Term 1 (Feb-Apr). In Terms 2 and 3 (May-Sep), U15s have one practice per week and one refereed game on the weekend. In Term 4 (Oct-Dec), U15s again have one practice per week.

Tuesday 5.30-6.30p: Practice (10 practices)

Under-18 (Midget League)

The coed U18 league is highly competitive and most players have played hockey for several years. Continued enjoyment in this age range often stems from increased intensity of practices and games, as well as a heightened sense of competition and achievement. While games are non-checking, advanced players may elect to be placed in a checking group for practices and additional scrimmages.
U18s typically have one practice per week in Term 1 (Feb-Apr). In Terms 2 and 3 (May-Sep), U18s have one practice per week and one refereed game on the weekend. In Term 4 (Oct-Dec), U18s again have one practice per week.

High School League

The coed non-checking High School League is for players of all abilities who are attending High School. This league has an emphasis on camaraderie, sportsmanship, and fun.
Practices include all high school players. For league games, players will play for their regular high school team (or be assigned to a composite team if their high school has too few players to field a team).

Wednesdays 3.30-4.30pm: Practice
Saturdays 10.00a or 11.15am: Refereed games
Early Registration Fee: $629
Regular Registration Fee: $50 more than Early
