Youth Leagues
Canterbury Ice Hockey Association's youth leagues are for players under 18 years of age. We offer four youth hockey leagues with refereed games in winter, shown below.

Experienced and competitive? Players can play in the leagues below and also try out for a Canterbury Representative Team and compete against other regional teams in New Zealand.

Under-12 (Super League)

The coed U12 Super League is open to all players under age 12 who have gained experience in our Learn To Play program. Through fun, engaging, and active games and exercises, U12s learn hockey fundamentals such as skating, controlling a puck, passing, and shooting.
U12s operates all year round during the four school terms. Players can attend weekly training sessions and are assigned to a superhero-themed team in winter with jerseys to match and play refereed cross-ice games.
Term 1 (12 Feb - 2 Apr)
Thursdays 5.30-6.30pm: Practice
Saturdays 12.30-1.30pm: Practice
Terms 2-3 Super League (TENTATIVE 21 Apr - 2 Sep)
Tuesdays 6.10-7.10pm: Practice
Thursdays 5.30-6.30pm: Practice
Saturdays 12.30-1.30pm: Super League Game

Registration Fee: $199 (10-use concession card good for any session)
Membership Fee: $130 (good for one year starting April 1)
Annual memberships in CIHA and Ice Hockey NZ are required to play in winter Super League and this fee is separate from the registration fee.

Under-15 (Bantams)

The coed non-checking U15 league has players with a range of ability levels, from those new to the game to skilled players with years of experience. We structure sessions to enable players to develop at the pace that's right for them. Ice sessions are focused on skill development through fun and engaging activities, but with an increasing focus on team play.
U15s typically have one practice per week in Term 1. In Terms 2 and 3, U15s have one practice per week and one refereed game on the weekend. In Term 4, U15s again have one practice per week.
Term 1 (12 Feb - 2 Apr)

Under-18 (Midget League)

The coed U18 league is more competitive and most players have played hockey for several years. Continued enjoyment in this age range often stems from increased intensity of practices and games, as well as a heightened sense of competition and achievement. While games are non-checking, advanced players may elect to be placed in a checking group for practices and additional scrimmages.
U18s typically have one practice per week in Term 1. In Terms 2 and 3, U18s have one practice per week and one refereed game on the weekend. In Term 4, U18s again have one practice per week.
Term 1 (10 Feb - 31 Mar)

High School Program

The coed non-checking High School program is for beginning through intermediate players who are of High School age. This league has an emphasis on camaraderie, sportsmanship, fun, and learning the game and features a mix of training and coach-led full-ice games.
Final program format, including the mix of practices and games, will be determined based on the number of registrations received.
