Canterbury Ice Hockey League: Premier Division

Come watch the fastest and coolest sport in Canterbury! See the high energy and excitement of a live ice hockey game in Canterbury's Premier Division, with some of the most skilled players in New Zealand facing off against each other. The Alpine Ice Sports Centre venue features a heated cafe with a wide selection of tasty treats and beverages to help you enjoy the games. Games are played on most Tuesday nights in Winter.

Attention Ice Hockey Players: 2023 Premier Division Registration Information

The CIHL Premier Division is Canterbury's highest level of adult recreational, non-checking play. Players are assigned to teams through a draft process for balance and to create a fresh, social, competitive playing environment each year.

​

NO CASUAL PLAYERS ALLOWED!

YOU MUST REGISTER IN THIS LEAGUE AND BE DRAFTED TO PLAY CIHA "GRADE 1" IN WINTER

Format and Schedule (Subject to Change)

  • Expected 3 teams with ~15 skaters + 1 goalie each

  • Games will be 3 x 20 minute stop clock periods

  • Games typically Tuesdays 7.45-9.45p from April 25 - September 19

  • Players will be notified of their team assignments roughly a week before the first game

  • 12 games: 10 regular season + 2 playoffs (teams will have 2 games every 3 weeks)

Prices and Registration​

  • Just a $11 initial payment to register for the season, followed by 4 instalment payments of $121 on the 1st of each month May-Aug ($495 total, or save $50 and pay $445 for the whole season in advance)

  • Register now to save money: prices increase by $50 on March 28

  • Goalies register at a 50% discount: select option to prepay for the season and apply coupon IMAGOALIE at checkout

  • Yearly CIHA and NZIHF memberships must be purchased at registration ($65 and $55 for senior members); these are the same memberships all CIHA adult players are required to purchase for 2023-2024 to play in any organised league

  • You should be a "G1"-rated player or experienced "G2" to register

  • Undrafted skaters will be fully refunded; undrafted goalies will be refunded and placed on a priority list for substitute play

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: APRIL 15, 2023

Registration after APRIL 15 will only be available if there is space on a team.​
